TMB's new perspective on Chekhov's The Cherry Orchard with direction and choreography by Tina Kronis and original text by Richard Alger.

In this new work, the characters are jarred by their memories, jammed into the present, and forced to examine the future speading out before them. Cherry Jam updates the early 20 th century story of The Cherry Orchard in which an aristocratic Russian family faces the loss of their home and beloved cherry orchard. Rather than taking action, they stay suspended in their own hyper-reality without finding a solution unable to address their impending loss. TMB's condensed and heightened adaptation, Cherry Jam, brings a new invigorating perspective on Chekhov's original through movement, song and dance. A highly detailed movement score emphasizes the unspoken, unseen and unexpressed for a fresh and physical impression of Chekhov's classic. Human concerns with identity and place are examined, "pulp, pits and all."

The production was commissioned by California Institue of Arts School of Theatre and premiered at the college in Oct., 2010. CalArts actors, designers and crew made up the original members of this production team.
